I-5 Skagit Bridge Collapse

Client WSDOT
Location Mount Vernon, WA
Scope Of Work Bride Demolition
Schedule 5/2013 - 8/2013

Project Detail

A state of emergency was declared by the Washington State governor following the collapse of the Skagit Bridge along the I-5 corridor, a main route connecting the U.S. to Canada.  PPM removed the steel sections that had fallen into the river and placed each on a barge to be transported to an upland location for inspection by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Due to shallow river depths and critical nature of the work, exceptional measures were taken to access the site by barge and remove the fallen bridge members. PPM worked closely with several trade contractors working two shifts daily to keep to the accelerated schedule to get traffic moving again.
