Interstate 5 – Skagit Bridge Collapse

Project Overview

A state of emergency was declared by the Washington State governor following the collapse of the Skagit Bridge along the I-5 corridor, a main route connecting the U.S. to Canada.  PPM removed major steel sections that had fallen into the river in conjunction with dive teams.  Components and debris were placed  on a barge for transport to an upland location for inspection by the National Transportation Safety Board as this was caused by an oversized vehicle.

Due to shallow river depths and critical nature of the work, exceptional measures were taken to access the site by barge and remove the fallen bridge members. PPM worked closely with several trade contractors working two shifts daily to keep to the accelerated schedule to get traffic moving again.
