SR 520 Go Long

Seattle, WA

Seattle, WA – On April 2, 2016, the Washington State Department of Transportation is hosting a grand opening celebration marking completion of the new SR 520 Floating Bridge; the longest floating bridge in the world.

Pacific Pile & Marine is one of the celebration’s sponsors. We are among a number of prominent companies making a difference to the local community. Our team will be hosting a rest-stop along the bridge to commemorate the significant progress of one of the region’s major infrastructure improvements.

The community will have an opportunity to run, bike, or walk across the bridge. The festivities taking place atop the 1.5-mile-long highway will begin Saturday morning. The fun run is scheduled to start at 730am. The general public is invited to explore the bridge from 10am to 5pm. At the moment, we’re tentatively planned to be one of the first locations on the West side of the bridge, near where we’re currently working on the West Approach Bridge North with Flatiron Construction. The celebration closes with a public bike ride from the University of Washington across the bridge and back.

The new floating bridge will open to traffic in stages, using two weekend closures in the weeks to follow the grand opening. The existing bridge will then be decommissioned and removed in sections. The new bridge extends an additional 132-ft with wider shoulders for disabled vehicles.
