Project Detail

Emergency response was called for a boat salvage to recover the vessel that had exploded while moored in the marina.

A local man was installing a new 15-gallon propane tank in his 38-ft yacht at John Wayne Marina when it exploded. The blast sent debris around the marina and damaged several adjacent boats.

Ten other boats suffered damage from the debris that flew as far as 75 yards from the site of the explosion. Boaters said they heard the blast as far away as East Sequim Bay and Blyn, about 5 miles east of John Wayne Marina on West Sequim Bay, WA.

Vessel and other debris were removed and temporarily stacked in a section of the marina’s parking lot prior to being transported for disposal at an approved landfill.

PPM utilized a crane barge to lift large pieces of the shattered deck and hull from the bottom of the bay. Commercial divers were used to secure the debris with lifting chains.
