Work is underway on a dam project located on Revillagigedo Island at the head of Carroll Inlet to increase hydroelectric lake storage. Water levels had to be lowered in order to access the work area.
The Swan Lake Hydroelectric Facility is a 22 MW facility with a concrete thin arch dam, intake, tunnel, penstock and powerhouse. The site is only accessible by float plane or boat. PPM was contracted to perform concrete demolition work on the spillway; construct a new reinforced concrete center pier; place reinforced concrete on the wing walls, modify and seal existing parapet walls; and install embedded metals and seal plates for the vertical gates and flashboard system in additional to erecting the gates and flashboard system, a highly unique element to this project. The project is scheduled to finish in October.
