Juneau, AK – The Don Statter Memorial Boat Harbor in Auke Bay was in need of an upgrade. Pacific Pile & Marine was contracted to install fifteen 240 foot 24 inch diameter pilings with a 20 foot deep socket. The need for unusually long piling was created by the very soft sediment. The anchor piling had to go down into the bedrock. The degree of difficulty to install these pile were even greater due to the water depth.
PPM utilized a specialized technique that allowed these pile to be installed full length. The custom-built drilling system, coupled with a large capacity Sky Horse crane, allowed PPM to set up to 2 pile per day.
The marina rebuild was the first phase of a redevelopment plan to better accommodate the half million commercial and recreational users who frequent the harbor each year. Click here to read full article.
