Ruston, WA – Pacific Pile & Marine removed thousands of toxic creosote pilings at the former Asarco smelter site. The EPA declared it a superfund site when the copper smelter shut down more than two decades ago.
The 67 site overlooking Tacoma’s Commencement Bay was taken over by a private developer to construct homes, condos, a hotel, office and commercial space at the former smelter site. “It really is an amazing transition of this mill that was spewing out arsenic all over Puget Sound,” said Rep.
